It's already mid-January and nothing but good news. Although the winter has been hard so far, much snow and slippery roads and it doesn't get better when it's mixed with rain and wind. The training is going well since we have a riding hall and three super-active girls in work, Elin Holst, Ester Kapinga and Henna Johanna Sirén.

At the moment we have a bit over fifty horses in the stable, most of wich are ours. We have a lot of young mares this year, some young stallions, older stallions and a few geldings. There are a lot of talented horses and it is going to be fun to see how they evolve.

As usual, Julio Borba comes over to teach us, and as usual it was great. He is particularly creative and is and is very quick at reading people and horses. As always, he said a lot of memorable things, like when he said that the goal was to see a serious horse and a smiling rider, but when the rider is serious and the horse is smiling , we have a problem.

This is a photo of us that was taken on the course.

Álfadís has received an honorary award for offsprings on the Breeding Conference 2011, Álfadís was honored with an honorary award for offsprings. She is 15 years old and so far six offsprings have reached the age to be broken/tamed, two are not alive anymore.  One daughter from Flygill frá Vestri Leirárgörðun was not OK and Alvar, the son of Dalvar from Auðsholtshjáleiga died by an accident when he was two years old. He was quite tall, light built and beautiful, his temperament was super, everything was easy for him.

Her offsprings that are broken/tamed and judged are:

Álfasteinn  f.  Keilir frá Miðsitju         C.8.32.R   8.69 Total  8,56 Blup  122

Álfur            f.   Orri Þúfu                         C.8.11 R.  8.69 Total  8,46 Blup  127

Gandálfur  f.   Gustur frá Hóli              C.8.00 R  8.72 Total  8,46 Blup   125

Heilladís    f.   Suðri Holtsmúla           C.8.09 R  8.46 Total  8,32 Blup   120

Álffinnur   f.   Orri from Þúfu               C.7.98 R  8.42 Total.  8,24 Blup  126

Average of all offsprings                      C.8.10 R  8.60 Total   8,41 Blup  124

Conclusion of judgment:

Álfadís gives horses over medium size with a fairly good head. The neck is soft with high withers. The back is broad and strong, but the croup is rather rough. The proportions are correct but the straightness of the legs is varied. Their legs are strong, the feet are dry but the hoofs are excellent. Mane and tail are below average. Álfadís provides great tolt, long steps, high movements and much speed range. The trot is also in high quality, good suspension, long steps and high movements. Three of the offsprings have excellent pace, and all of them have good canter and gallop. Spirit and temperament are great.

The breeding conference of Iceland was held yesterday in Hotel Saga in Reykjavík. We went and had a good time.

Same procedure as every year, they informed us about all the results of the breeding 2011.

The conference was interesting, and for the first time there were made groups with the people who took part in the meeting where they were asked questions about many different things regarding to the implementation of breedingshows on Landsmót, saving time but keeping quality. For me that was a huge step forward, and I hope that they will keep that direction in the future, it is really important to give the breeders a possibility to  express their opinion this way. It was a really good start and for the future I wish that they'd use a little bit more time for this sort of work. Prize giving ceremonies were well prepared, concise, informative, and honorable and for me it was the best meeting I have taken part in for a long time, thank you.

Our results this year in the breeding I will write more about soon but our breeding Ketilsstaðir/Syðri Gegnishólar was nominated this year as well for the breeders of the year and Álfadís received her first prize of honor for offsprings.

Just got great news about Hvati, he took part in his first competition with his new owner Eileen Ma this weekend.

Ásta Covert Bjarnadóttir, California, USA, sent me an E-mail and wrote this:

It went  really well with Eileen and Hvati this weekend, they were competing in pleasure Tölt as a start and also because she had only ridden him four or five times since he came. In pleasure tölt you have to show free choice of speed, turn around and then do free tempo again.

She got 6.20 in the preliminarys but in the finals she got 6,0 from all judges on left hand. She rode a little bit faster on the right hand so she got 7,0 from three judges and 6,5 from the other two, wich gave a final result of 6,42.

I received these nice pictures,  they are of Hvati. He was sold to the United States. Hvati was evaluated at 8.19 when he was 5 years old, and he is the son of Gustur frá Hóli and Hefð frá Ketilsstöðum,  she is an daughter of Vakning.

Last spring Hvati was castrated, his new owner is  Eileen Ma, and he is in  Will and Ásta´s stable at Flying C in California. The trip went well and Hvati is doing fine. We got the news that Eileen is very happy with him and she is going to the first tournament with him this weekend.
